Poets! Popsicle Sticks! Prizes!!
Wednesday, July 15th is Tweetspeak Poetry’s Take Your Poet To Work Day and I, for one, can’t wait! For those of you who are new, Take Your Poet To Work Day is an annual event where poetry lovers everywhere printout little paper puppets of their favorite poets and take them along to the office (among other places) and then share pictures and posts about their poets’ adventures on Twitter and other social media.
I always enjoy Take Your Poet To Work Day. Last year, T. S. Eliot (shown here with one of Old Possum’s practical cats) spent most of the day in the break room, measuring out his life in coffee spoons. The year before that, Emily Dickinson kept me company as I worked from home. This year, they have added even more poets, (including three of my favorites: William Shakespeare, Maya Angelou, and Walt Whitman) and I am very excited to see what kind of wacky adventures the poets have this time around.
In addition to taking a poet (or two, or three) to work with me, I am also celebrating Take Your Poet To Work Day with a giveaway! One lucky poetry lover will win a $25 gift certificate to my Etsy shop, C. S. Literary Jewelry Etsy shop just for taking their favorite poet(s) to work with them. Here’s how it will work:
Step 1: Get your Poet – Visit the Tweetspeak website and download one (or more) of their little puppet poets. Color / decorate your poet and then cut them out and attach them to Popsicle sticks.
Step 2: Take Your Poet To Work – On Wednesday, July 15th, take your poets along with you to the office (or wherever you spend your day) and document your poet’s adventures with photos and poets on the social media platform of your choice (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.), Don’t forget to use the hashtag #poettowork and be sure to check out some of the other #poettowork posts and tweets to see what the other poets are up to.
Step 3: Share the Fun – Then head over to this post on the CSLJ Blog to share your posts and pictures for a chance to win.
Want more chances to win prizes by hanging out with your favorite poet(s)? Tweetspeak Poetry is hosting this giveaway and you can win tickets to see an upcoming film based on T. E. Eliot’s The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock here.
