If you love Jane Austen novels as much as I do, you have probably noticed how often the characters in them spend a relaxed and cozy evening at home, playing card games and socializing. And while card games like Whist may have gone out of style, fortunately there is a card game that allows you and your fellow Austenites to experience the joys and drama of a Jane Austen – style card party. In Marrying Mr. Darcy, the Pride and Prejudice card game by Erika Svanoe, the players play one of the ladies of Pride and Prejudice and vie for the affections of and a proposal from a gentleman in possession of a good fortune, including the swoon-worthy Mr. Darcy. There is even an Undead Expansion for those who prefer their Regency romances with more zombies and gore. (Get an idea of game play here.)
My husband and I picked up a copy of Marrying Mr. Darcy back when it was first released and it very quickly became one of our favorite games. Even our friends and family who haven’t read Pride and Prejudice enjoy playing the game with us and it usually only takes one “Scandal Card” for most of the players to really get into the spirit of things. And now Erika is releasing an expansion to the game inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma and I cannot wait to get my copy!!
In just a few days, both Erika and I will be hosting our own Jane Austen Giveaways. Starting Monday, you can enter to win a copy of the Marrying Mr. Darcy game (with the Emma expansion) and a handmade Emma Bangle Bracelet from C. S. Literary Jewelry. Enter both contests and double your chances to win. (UPDATE: You can now enter our giveaway here. )
In the meanwhile, I put together the perfect literary look for a relaxed and casual Jane Austen Game Night. Featuring a lovely floral cardigan and a set of my handmade, stacking Jane Austen Bangle Bracelets this outfit combines both comfort and elegance. I am sure Jane would approve. Do you?
