Q: Why is it such a big deal that your jewelry is handmade? What’s all the fuss about?

Q: Why literary jewelry?
A: You can read more about how all this got started in our About Page but basically, what we love about making (and wearing) literary jewelry is that it is a great way to celebrate our favorite books and poetry and to enjoy great literature even when things like work, school, errands and grocery shopping,
interrupt our reading time.

Our jewelry is also like a secret handshake among book lovers, a great conversation starter that alerts other people to your  great taste in literature and says “talk to me about books” to any fellow book lovers you meet.

Q: If you love books so much, how can you destroy them to make your jewelry?
A: We believe that it is a wonderful thing to give old books that would be otherwise discarded or thrown away a new lease on life by creating beautiful crafts and upcycled projects out of them.

Having said that, we use a computer to generate the text that you see in our pendants and charms and no books are harmed in the making of our jewelry.

Q: Is your jewelry safe for children?
A: We have a lot of designs inspired by classic children’s books (Narnia, Little Women, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, etc.) that would make wonderful gifts and accessories for younger readers and book lovers.

However, because many of our pieces have ceramic and glass components that can be broken if handled too roughly and charms small enough to be choking hazards, we do not recommend allowing a child under the age of 5 years old to wear our jewelry unless supervised by an adult.

Parents should use their own discretion and judgment in determining if their child is old enough to wear
our charm necklaces.

Q: I am looking for a piece of custom jewelry inspired by a specific book or would like a favorite quote or passage featured in my jewelry. Can you do that?

A: Absolutely! We love working with our customers to create truly one-of-a-kind literary jewelry. In the past we have made custom pieces inspired by our customers’ favorite books, poems, literary quotes, song lyrics, and Bible verses. We’ve even helped some authors and writers commemorate the publication of their latest book by creating handmade jewelry featuring their writing.

Take a look at what some of our happy customers have had to say about their custom jewelry and then
contact us to discuss what you have in mind.

Q: What are your chains made of?
A: Our charm necklaces and smaller pendants come on silver-filled chains and our larger pendants come on your choice of black satin cord or silver / gold – plated chains.

Q: What is the difference between silver-plated and silver-filled chain?

A: Both silver-filled and silver-plated feature a base metal core with a silver top layer. However, silver-plate has a much thinner layer of silver that may flake with time.  Silver-filled has a much thicker layer of silver and is bonded to the base metal core so that it will not flake, giving you the qualities of a sterling silver chain without the cost.

Q: How should I care for my literary jewelry?

A: While our resin charms and pendants are water resistant, we do not recommend submerging them in water for long periods of time. Be sure to remove them before bathing, swimming, or in the case of our rings, doing dishes.

Avoid exposing your jewelry to heat sources that could melt the resin, as well as chemicals like nail polish remover, ammonia, bleach, and chlorine which can damage the resin and cause tarnish on the silver and gold components of your jewelry.

Like anything made of precious metals, our jewelry can tarnish if not cared for properly. For best results, wipe your jewelry with a soft cloth after wearing and store in a cool, dry place. If you live where there is a lot of humidity and moisture in the air, you may want to consider storing your jewelry in individual plastic storage bags with anti-tarnish tags and investing in a jewelry cleaning cloth.
