Father’s Day With Scout and Atticus

Spend Father’s Day with one of my favorite fictional fathers, Atticus Finch from Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird.  There are so many reasons to love Atticus but one of my favorite things about him is that he is a loving and engaged father to his children, especially Scout. He never tried to change her or force her to be a proper young lady. He simply loved her for who she was, tried to help her make sense of the world and showed her how to live her life with courage, dignity, and integrity.  So as a tribute to this wonderful father-daughter relationship, I decided to design a Father’s Day outfit for Scout.

Since Scout was a tomboy and dreaded being forced into anything too fussy or frilly, I kept things simple with a basic pair of jeans, a tank top, and a pair of sandals. Then I added this awesome To Kill a Mockingbird Book Purse by Novel Creations and a bronze bird pendant – a reference to the mockingbird in the title – for a casual, summer outfit that is perfect for sipping ice tea on the front porch with dad or relaxing in the shade with a copy of To Kill a Mockingbird.
