CSLJ Book Club – Jane Eyre Discussion – Final Thoughts

It’s the last day of our Jane Eyre discussion and I was hoping to get a little feedback about the book club itself and the format / timing of our discussions.

  1. First of all, did you have enough time to read the book before our discussion? Should we have more time to read? Less?
  2. What did you think of the length of our discussion. Did you enjoy having a full week to chat about the book or would you prefer a longer/shorter discussion?
  3. Did you like having a different question to discuss each day or would you prefer things a little more spaced out to give you more of a chance to respond?
  4. Were the daily emails letting you know when the latest question was posted helpful or annoying?
  5. Do you have any thoughts or suggestions for improving the book club that you would like to share?
  6. Are there any books you would like to suggest for a future read?

I would really appreciate any feedback you have about the book club and how to make it even better. Leave a comment here or on our Facebook page with your thoughts and opinions.

I hope you all had fun. Thanks so much to everyone who participated and I hope that we will see you for our discussion of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s The Secret Garden.

P.S. If you missed a day or wanted to see what your fellow book lovers had to say, you can check out our complete discussion of Jane Eyre here.

  1. I had a great time this week discussing Jane eyre! I think the amount of time was perfect for reading because I had been in the middle of a book when the time started and so it gave me some wiggle room before I had to start. I loved having a whole week to discuss I wouldn’t mind even longer if you liked. I loved the different questions everyday and even though I missed the discussions for the first few days it was very easy to catch up. I enjoyed the emails as a reminder. I’d love to read some Jane Austen and Night Circus. I think it’s great that the books you picked for this year are all easily found. I’m so excited to start secret garden!

  2. I think the amount of time to read the book was good and I think the length of time for discussion was just right. I like having a new question every day but I would like to suggest posting the question at the beginning of the day. That would give people more time to discuss it. I liked having an e-mail letting me know when the question was posted.

I have not read very many classic books and one of the reasons I joined this book club was when I saw the books that were going to be read. I like everyone’s opinions to the questions. Everyone had such great insight! I look forward to the next book and discussion 🙂

  3. Thanks ladies for your comments. I really appreciate the feedback. Since it sounds like everyone was happy with the way things ran, I think we will keep it mostly the same for now.

And next time around, I will try to get the questions up earlier in the day. I meant to do that this time but we had some family issues (emergency room visits, my sister and 15 month old nephew visiting from out of town, snowstorms and a really nasty bug making its way through my family) so I was juggling a lot this past week. Of course, once the discussion week ended, everything calmed down. (Just my luck!)

    • Thanks Melanie. If everyone is happy, then I will keep things the same. I just wanted to make sure everyone was on the same page (if you will pardon the pun).
